Candlelight Concerts in Eastbourne and Southampton with Premiere String Quartet

Over two days, Premiere String Quartet had the pleasure of performing four Candlelight Concerts across East Sussex and West Sussex. Our performances took place in the intimate and atmospheric settings of All Saints Old Chapel, Eastbourne and Royal Victoria Chapel, Southampton, offering audiences a unique live music experience in candlelit venues.

Eastbourne: Vivaldi and Queen

Our first programme at All Saints Old Chapel featured The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. Premiere String Quartet brought each season to life through expressive phrasing, tonal colour, and dynamic contrast, capturing the energy of spring, the vibrancy of summer, the reflective mood of autumn, and the clarity of winter. Performing this iconic repertoire allowed us to explore the full versatility and expressive range of the string quartet.

In the second programme, we performed the music of Queen, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, and Another One Bites the Dust arranged for string quartet. Premiere String Quartet conveyed both the rhythmic drive and lyricism of these iconic songs, giving audiences an new and engaging perspective on the band’s legendary music.

Southampton: Coldplay and Queen

Our Candlelight Concerts continued at Royal Victoria Chapel, Southampton The first programme featured the music of Coldplay, reimagined for string quartet. Arranging and performing these pieces allowed us to highlight melodic lines, harmonic textures, and subtle dynamics, offering familiar songs in an intimate, expressive setting.

The second programme in Southampton returned to Queen, with the same fan favourites as in Eastbourne. The candlelit venue provided a perfect atmosphere for the performance, allowing us to connect with the audience and bring out the energy and emotion of the music.

Celebrating Live Music

Across both cities, performing four concerts in just two days was a truly rewarding experience. It gave us the opportunity to showcase the versatility of the Premiere String Quartet and the enduring appeal of both classical and contemporary repertoire. We loved sharing the nuanced interpretation of Vivaldi, the energetic arrangements of Queen, and the emotive reimagining of Coldplay with audiences who clearly appreciated live music in historic, intimate venues.
