Strings for a wedding in London

Last weekend we were asked to play as a String Duo for a wedding in central London. The venue was The Ned, a venue we had never played at before, but hope to go back to again! Inside the unassuming entrance it opens out into an amazing interior which was incredibly busy despite it being a Sundsay afternoon in the City. A 5 piece jazz band were playing in the centre of the enormous room while people were enjoying their Sunday buffet of oysters, lobster, roast dinners and amazing desserts!! As we were working we could only look on and think about returning socially!

We made our way to the 6th floor which was where Helen and Davids’s wedding was taking place. There were some lovely staff who were incredibly helpful, showing the String Duo for wedding ceremony and Strings for drinks reception where to set up and even moving an inconveniently placed Chez Longue so we would have enough space to play comfortably. The only music that had been specifically requested was Helen’s entrance music, Pachelbel Canon in D. She had requested that we play suitable music for a wedding ceremony before and then something suitable for the Bride and Grooms exit, before moving on to some of our modern music on strings for the drinks reception. We chose lots of our favourite pieces, some of which you can hear originals of below as well as some of our arrangements….

If you need Strings for a wedding in London, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help you create a beautiful atmosphere for you special day.

String Duo for a wedding in Buxted Park, East Sussex

Premiere String Quartet recently returned to one of our favourite (and most local!) venues, Buxted Park in East Sussex to play as a String Duo for a Wedding Ceremony and Reception Drinks. Buxted Park is a fantastic venue in some amazing gorunds with a lovely chapel taht is sometimes used for weedding ceremonies. However often couples choose to hold their wedding ceremony inside the house as it is such a stunning venue.

As is the case with a lot of our bookings, Suzie and Tom wanted music for the arrival of their guests, music for a wedding ceremony and some music for their drinks reception before their guests moved into the wedding breakfast. Often couples leave it to us to decide the mix of music to play however the bride and groom gave us a lovely list of music to play, the reception playlist involving lots of our modern songs for strings.

Wedding Strings in Alfriston, East Sussex

Lat weekend we returned to Alfriston to perform at our first wedding of 2019 (January is always a nice quiet time to catch up, sort out new music for strings and generally recover!). We were asked to play as a String Trio for a wedding ceremony and drinks reception.

Deans Place is a lovely hotel and wedding venue on the edge of the village of Alfriston. The ceremony room looked fantastic with drapes and extra lighting and we are often told that having a wedding string quartet or one of our smaller ensembles at the front of the room can add even more atmosphere to the occasion. Before the ceremony, as the guests were being seated we were asked to play some of our more traditional classical music for strings which included music by Vivaldi and Bach. One of our favourites is the Vivialdi Double Concerto:

The bride had requested to walk in accompanied by her favourite piece of music – Gabriel’s Oboe from the Mission by Ennio Morricone:

During the signing of the register, when we always suggest having at least 2 pieces of music, we played our version of Pachelbel’s Canon in D as well as How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding:

To exit, the couple had asked for All You Need is Love by the Beatles which we have again made a special arrangement of for weddings. Modern Music for Strings is really popular now and we have an absolutely enormous selection of pop covers for string quartet, string trio and string duo.

Following the ceremony the guests and ourselves relocated to another room for the drinks reception, and the weather was nice enough for the bride and groom and their guests to go outside to get some nice pictures in the grounds of Deans Place, overlooking the East Sussex countryside.

It was really nice to get to chat to the couple as their guest were seated for the wedding breakfast and we hope the rest of the day was as enjoyable as the time we spent at this lovely wedding.

A few days later we received a lovely email thanking us for being part of the wedding:

Hi Rachel,

Now that things have settled down, we wanted to take the time to thankyou for your hard work playing at our wedding at Deans Place last weekend.
Your skills and professionalism were second to none and really helped make the day special for us. To walk in to Gabriels Oboe was such a special moment for me and one I will always remember, and the combination of both classic and modern really helped create a fantastic atmosphere among our guests.
Our guests were truly blown away by the music and couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful you sounded and your expansive repertoire.
We would have no hesitation in recommending you to others as we really were blown away.
Once again, a massive thankyou!

Wedding Ceremony Music in Preston Court, Canterbury

We recently returned to Preston Court in Canterbury (we have been here a lot as we are preferred suppliers at this amazing venue!). It was an amazing wedding, involving camper vans, vintage cars, and the incredible pipe organ at Preston Court. The venue is part of a farm but has a real vintage fairground feel with a carousel. The string trio began on the banks of the lake while the wedding party took their places on the small island. We began with a selection of our music for string trio, more classical in feel before moving on to the wedding ceremony music, which included McFly – It’s All About You (which seems to be really popular at the moment!) and How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees. Following the ceremony we moved across the lawn to play some of our pop music arranged for string trio. As we got ourselves settled in the barn we were surprised when the organ started up – it’s the first time I have heard it and it was a really fantastic way to greet the guests. Playing throughout the meal, Jo the bride wanted us to keep an upbeat feel and had requested we include sons such as Always Look On The Bright Side of Life and Everybody’s Free from Romeo and Juliet, which I had previously arranged for another bride. It was a great day and we can’t wait to return to Preston Court.

Wedding in Penshurst, Kent

Back from a fantastic day in Penshurst, Kent! A longer booking than usual – the usual choice for our Wedding String Quartet is for the ceremony and drinks reception but sometimes when the ceremony is at a different venue we are asked to move between venues. Today we began in the beautiful St John the Baptist Church, dating back to the 12th Century.

http://www.penshurstchurch.org/the-church/

We ran into the Rector, Tom as we got to the church so could discuss arrangements for the wedding ceremony. It’s always important for us to establish the format for the ceremony as there are many different ways this can happen. He was really helpful throughout, giving us really clear signals – not always the case!! On this occasion the Bride and Groom had chosen 2 separate pieces for the entrance of the Bridesmaids and the entrance of the Bride:

and our version of Pachelbel Canon in D

Among the couple’s other choices were their chosen exit music, God Only Knows by the Beach Boys, which you can listen to in our arrangement of pop music for strings on our website:

LISTEN

Following the ceremony we made our way to the reception venue, Penshurst Place and began our music for the drinks reception in the fantastic setting of the Barrons Hall, a beautiful room with a circular open fire in the centre and suits of armour on tables around the outside. The couple had asked us to play a selection from our repertoire for String Quartet so we began with some classical pieces including Vivaldi Concertos, moving on later to music from films and shows and more contemporary pop music for string quartet. How about this?

After a break we moved to the marquee for the wedding breakfast, the guests were seated on long tables all joined together rather than seperate tables which was lovely and the flower arrangements were incredible! We continued with our pop arrangements, including some of our newest ones. How about a bit of Metallica for String Quartet?

Overall it was a tiring but ultimately rewarding day and we hope the addition of a wedding string quartet added to what was a really lovely wedding in an amazing setting.

String Quartet for Party in Tunbridge Wells Hotel

We were recently contacted by one of our previous brides, Rachelle. We had played as a string quartet for her wedding back in 2012. She was planning a birthday celebration for her mum in Tunbridge Wells and as she had enjoyed the music at Rachelle’s wedding so much Rachelle thought it would be a lovely idea to surprise her with some string quartet music for the party. As there weren’t going to be too many guests and the room wasn’t too large she thought a string duo would be perfect. A mixture of our repertoire for string duo from classical to pop music for strings was requested with one particular piece being special – the theme from Downton Abbey. Luckily we had made an arrangement of this for another client previously so it was no problem for us to dust it off and play it at an appropriate moment. It proved as popular as Rachelle had thought it would be so we were asked to play it again later on.

As always we hoped that the addition of live string music would lift an already special occasion and it seemed to do the trick! IN fact Rachelle’s mum emailed us a few days later-

I cannot tell you just how much your attending my Birthday Gathering on Saturday evening meant to me! It was the most wonderful surprise gift from my husband and daughters and I am still smiling with the memory of your beautiful sounds filling the room…….thank you so very much.

Sincerely, Yvonne

More Testimonials!

Dear Martin,

I just wanted to write and thank you for playing for us and keeping our guests entertained throughout our drinks reception last Thursday.

Everyone commented on how good you were and how lovely the music was.  We would highly recommend you for any event.

Merry Christmas to you all and every happiness for 2016!

Kind regards and thank you once again.

Helen

Hi Rachel,

Hope you are well.  I’m so sorry it has taken so long for us to email you – we have had a busy few months – wedding, honeymoon and moving house! But we really wanted to thank you all for playing so beautifully and making our wedding day so special!

You were so helpful and professional on the day and in the lead up to our wedding and were really a pleasure to work with. We received so many comments on the day and afterwards saying how having the string quartet there really added to the atmosphere of celebration and kept everyone entertained and was something that everyone loved. It was especially lovely to be able to walk down the aisle as you played and to be able to choose the songs that mean a lot to us to be played at special points throughout the day.  We would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone else in the future.

Thank you again!

Hi guys,

Just a huge great big THANKS for Saturday. You were absolutely fantastic and the music blew me away. Everyone commented on how beautiful the music at the service and in the paddock were.  I was so moved by your arrangement of A Thousand Years as I entered the church. Everyone loved the Beatles as we signed the register too!  I will be recommending you to every bride to be that I know. You really made the day so special and I would be more than willing to write a testimony for your website.
Thanks again,

Mrs Joanna Wayne (!!!)

Dear All,

Firstly apologies for the tardiness of this note. Claire and I wanted to write to thank you for the superb performances you gave for us at Old Wardour Castle and Bradley House at our wedding in September 2011. We loved it and so did our guests, (some of whom took some great photos which we’d be happy to send over if you would like). I know the weather caused some problems which you managed to overcome, true professionals.

Again please accept our thanks. If you would like to use us as a testimonial for your website that would be fine. If you’d like to, please just write the words you’d like to use and send it over for us to ok before publishing. With very best wishes for the future,

Andrew & Claire Brown

Hi Rachel,

Kate and I wanted to thank you and your group very much once again for playing at our wedding.  When the guests arrived at the Town Hall the atmosphere was fantastic with beautiful music to set the scene.

During the ceremony the timings and pieces played were perfect.  Thank you very much for the special requests played during the register signing.

At the reception the whole garden was filled with gorgeous sound, We really enjoyed listening while we were having our photos taken and having our drinks.

A great number of our guests particularly commented on how delighted they were with your playing and one said he wished that part of the afternoon had never ended!

I am particularly fond of classical music and your performance was one of the most memorable parts of my wedding!

We will highly recommend Premiere String Quartet to anyone looking for musicians for their special occasions.

With thanks again,

Mark and Kate Sidney

Hi Martin,

I wanted to thank you all for the music you provided on our wedding day, the broad range of genres, both old and new was the perfect accompaniment to our day. Everybody seemed to love the music you were playing and on more than on occasion someone came up to me and said “Did I hear the Game of Thrones Soundtrack being played”?…Yes you did!

Your professionalism was also noted by a lot of people including myself and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to other people.

I have attached a picture which was taken whilst you were playing in the great hall as I thought you may like it.

Thanks again!

Carl

Dear Martin,

I hope this email finds you well. We just wanted to drop you a quick email to thank you again for playing at our wedding ceremony back in September.  Having you perform our favourite songs throughout the ceremony just made the occasion even more memorable for us, and I don’t suppose I will ever forget how hearing Snow Patrols, Chasing Cars played by a string duo made me feel just before I walked down the aisle. Just utterly amazing. We would also like to thank you for your complete professionalism and how you quickly changed location for playing due to the weather.  So many of our guests have commented on just on lovely it was to have live music playing, so thank you again for helping making our wedding day perfect.

Kind regards

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for your fabulous performance on Saturday. It really made the ceremony. We loved having you and your hubby there! I just wish I’d been able to listen to you play for longer, but I found out that the bride doesn’t really get to stay in one place for very long! Let us know if you have any concerts coming up – we’d be there in a shot!

Dear Rachel and team,

I just wanted to send you a (very belated!) note to say thank you so, so much for your absolutely beautiful playing at our wedding in June. You were completely brilliant; one of our highlights of the day was listening to your fab rendition of Music of the Night during the signing of the register in our ceremony, and so many of our guests mentioned how wonderful the music at the reception was.

Thanks so much again and best wishes,

Hello Martin,

I just wanted to say thank you again for your duet string performance at my son’s wedding recently. We had all the magical ingredients, a wonderful setting, weather and you! Your music set the right beautiful atmosphere to start off proceedings and it was just lovely to walk out into the gardens and to see you and your partner playing beautiful soft music while guests ate their canapés. Everybody remarked on the wonderful music. Thank you again Martin, also for your patience in dealing with all the exacting demands made by the venue.

Best wishes

Hi Martin

I really just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you for the music you played at our wedding! It was perfect and we both loved it! Walking down the isle to Canon in D by Pachelbel was amazing and magical for me! My mum gasped as you started to play and said how much she loves that piece! My mum walking me down the isle to that was the most amazing feeling ever!

All our guests loved the music and commented how beautiful everything was.

Thanking you again!

Martin and Rachel,

Thank you so much for your wonderful playing at Brenda’s 60th Tea party. It was a wonderful surprise for her and we all really enjoyed both your playing and the wonderful range of music you played. A special thank you also for the excellent arrangements of Bridge over Troubled Water and Knights in White Satin that you did for us. They are very special tunes for Brenda and she really appreciated them.

We all wish you every success for the future,

Thank you again and all the very best

Hello Rachel,

I just wanted to send you an email to thank you for playing at our wedding on Monday 22nd December.  You were fantastic and really made the atmosphere we had hoped for.  Our guests were very complimentary about you as well.  The song choices were great too!  I do apologise that I didn’t get a chance to thank you in person on the day… It goes so quickly!!

I hope you had a lovely christmas and I wish you a very happy new year!

Hi Rachel,

Just wanted to say thank you for all your help with arranging for the quartet to play at our wedding reception.

It was a shame not to meet you personally to say thank you but the quartet sounded amazing.

We had so many comments saying how great they were and we absolutely loved the arrangement of Time by Hans Zimmer. My Dad rushed off the top table to tell his friends to listen to it as he absolutely loved it!

My husband James said the quartet was one of his favourite parts of the day. It was a shame that missed seeing them properly during the drinks reception as we were taken off for photos in the grounds but so glad to hear them during the wedding breakfast. It was a little dark and chilly in the hall but the quartet did well to play under such testing conditions and just shows how talented everyone was – true professionals!

We loved the mix of songs that the quartet played and I will never forget being announced to guests in Baron’s Hall as Mrs Watson and hearing the quartet playing ‘Feeling Good’ – was the perfect song to sum up that moment!

Thanks again for everything Rachel

Hi Rachel,

to say what a fabulous wedding day we had back in February and it was all enhanced by the Premiere String Trio. You were absolutely fabulous in all that you played.  From Maryanne’s entrance to the background music while we greeted everybody, it was all absolutely lovely.  You are a truly great set of musicians.

My personal highlight was our entrance into the wedding breakfast, where you played Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” it was brilliant, we both felt like royalty as we ran into the room.  It’s a memory that will be with me till my dying day.

All of our guests said what a great touch you made to the day and how versatile and varied your repertoire was.  Please thank your colleagues immensely from us both.  If ever I need a string trio/quartet, I certainly know where to come.  In fact, I’m thinking of an occasion where I could utilise you again and listen more intently.

Many thanks again for making our amazing day even more amazing.

Best wishes and kind regards

Michael & Maryanne

Hi Martin, thank you to your amazing quartet for accompanying my performance yesterday. You played beautifully throughout the ceremony and during drinks and many people commented on your sound, repertoire and professionalism.  Apologies I didn’t get to thank you personally yesterday.  We were checking into our room at the time you left and I missed you!

I will pass on your details to anybody else looking for a quartet.

Best wishes,

Dear Rachel.

Our wedding at Groombridge Place  was just magical & we loved every minute of our special day. Your music was absolutely lovely. It added an extra layer of beauty & elegance to the occasion. So many of our guests have said how much they enjoyed your playing & complimented us on our inspired choice of musicians……….. I have to say, I agree with them wholeheartedly  & I would not hesitate to recommend you to others.

Thank you so much for all that you did to make our wedding such a happy & wonderful occasion.

With Best Wishes Jane & Mike xxxx

Hi Rachel,

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get in touch with you and thank you for playing at our wedding. We got back to Australia from our honeymoon 2 weeks ago and it has all been a bit mad. Ian and I were really disappointed that we didn’t get the chance to hear you play (mainly because we were having a ridiculous amount of photos taken!!). Our guests all raved about how fantastic you were. My Auntie said she could have just sat and listened for hours. My nephew, Louis, was also chatting away about you playing Jeeves and Wooster. Thank you so much for being such a fantastic part of our wedding day. Thank you so much!

Warmest wishes,

Rebecca

Dear Rachel

A belated thank you for playing at Alison’s significant celebration on Saturday (it’s been a long weekend!) – it was exactly how I wanted the evening to start; I was pleased so many of our guests made very complimentary comments about your playing and how enjoyable it was to hear live music in that style at the start of the evening. Your selection of pieces was spot on and it was a huge pleasure to have you play for us.

Thank you for travelling to Eastbourne – if there is an opportunity to book you again we will and I have no hesitation in recommending you to our friends.

Thank you again

Hi Rachel,

Thank you both for your contribution to our special day on Saturday.

You made it very easy for us and the music sounded great at Scotney. It sounded even better when Lucy caught ‘Kissing You’ (a favourite!) as we were about to be showered with confetti at Hotel du Vin!

We hope you enjoyed the day and would happily recommend you and consider you for future functions.

You were both amazing and we will always be grateful.

Thanks again,

Hi Rachel –

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for the wonderful music on Saturday. It was absolutely beautiful. I am so sorry I didn’t get to come and speak to you on the day – I’m afraid the day just went too fast and there are a lot of people I just didn’t get to.

I received so many compliments regarding the wonderful music – it made the day very special.  Please pass on my thanks to all at Premiere Strings.

Best regards,

Hi Rachel,

Id just like to say a great big thank you for arranging the music and performing it so well.  Everyone appreciated it especially Olena and myself and it really helped make the day.

Happy Clients!

Just a few of the lovely comments we have received from our clients, many of which booked us as a string quartet for a wedding or string trio for an event or even a string duo for a party!

Dear Martin

I wanted to let you know how much Sally and I (and others!) enjoyed and appreciated your performance on Saturday. It was good to meet you and am sorry I did not have the opportunity to say farewell and thank you before we left for the conservatory.
It was a special day and your quartet was great, many thanks again for your support and well done to you and your fellow musicians for contributing to the success of a memorable day for our family and friends.

Dear Martin and the Premiere String Quartet,

Thank you all very much for being with us on Sunday, I am only sorry not to have thanked you all personally at the end.

We have had many emails and letters saying how lovely your choice of music was during the afternoon, it certainly made Ray’s party a great success.

With kindest regards,

Tanya Edmondson

Dear Rachel,

Hope you’re well.

We just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your beautiful performances at our wedding on 20th July. The music your played in the church was absolutely stunning, and your song choices for the drinks reception were perfect! We had so many of our guests coming up to us and saying how great you were, and endless fun was had playing ‘first one to guess the song’ in classical style!

Thank you so much for your professionalism and for showcasing your talents to their very best. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Best wishes

Emily and Mike

Hi,

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to our string duo who played at our Hampton Court House wedding yesterday. They were fantastic and made our day so special and memorable :)

Wishing you lots of luck for the future!

Kind regards,

Rosie Summers

Martin

Just a quick note to thank you for playing at our wedding. It was absolutely perfect and we really appreciated it. Apologies we didn’t get to speak with you on the day – all a bit hectic!

Please let us know if you’d like us to act as reference in the future.

Thanks again

Tracy

Hi Rachel and co,

Sorry it’s been a while, but just wanted to say thanks so much for the beautiful music you played at Hever Castle for us on 28th April. We had lots of lovely comments about how nice it was to sit and listen to you all, and I’m truly gutted I got dragged round the grounds in the cold and missed most of your set! I’ve attached a couple of nice pics below which were taken. Thanks again,

All the best

Louise

Dear Martin and Rachel ,

Now that things have calmed down, I am writing to say thank you so much for supporting the Missing People charity single ‘I Hope’. The song itself is incredibly powerful and still moves me to tears whenever I hear it. It also had a huge impact on the charity – generating over £1 million worth of advertising value via the amount of publicity it generated, significant financial support from the Royal Mail and it reached number 10 in the Amazon chart. We were blown away by the result and could not have done it without your support.

Dear Rachel, Thank you so much for playing at Jonathan and my wedding day last Friday. It was wonderful to have your talents and we are only sorry that we did not hear more of it due to our outside photographing! Please thank your colleague also.

Kind regards, Katharine

String Trio for wedding in Hever, Kent

The String Quartet were recently hired to play for a wedding at the fantastic venue of Hever Castle near Edenbridge in Kent.

hever_castlevisit-britain2

As there were not a huge number of guests the bride and groom had decided that a string trio would be perfect for the ceremony and drinks reception. We were located by the side of the ceremony room as it was a very open plan part of the castle and this worked really well as we could play as the guests assembled as well as being able to have a good view of the bride as she entered, made her way to the front and got settled. She had chosen a piece that we knew well but in an arrangement that we had not heard before – Scala and Kolacny’s version of U2’s With or Without You:

We were more than happy to add this to our pop arrangements for strings as we knew it would work beautifully for her entrance, creating a really emotional atmosphere.

The other pieces chosen for the ceremony were fairly new music to our repertoire but ones that work nicely, Coldplay Sky Full Of Stars and a favourite uplifting piece for the exit, One Day Like This by Elbow.

For the remainder of the booking we continued with our modern music for string quartet as the guests enjoyed drinks and canapes.

After the date we got a lovely message from the bride, always nice to hear we have added something to a very special day!!

String Trio for a wedding in Groombridge Place

Premiere String Quartet were recently engaged to provide music for a wedding ceremony and reception in the beautiful surroundings of Groombridge Place, on the border of Kent and East Sussex. We are always pleased to perform at a venue local to us and as some of our members are based in Tunbridge Wells as well as London this venue is ideal for us to perform as a String Quartet, String Trio, String Duo or even a solo violin or cello!

Groombridge Place was voted South East England’s ‘Favourite House’ by Country Life Magazine and is world famous as the setting for the BAFTA award winning movie based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, featuring Keira Knightly.

The ceremony itself was held in the amazing Baronial Hall where we performed a selection of classical music for string quartet as the guests assembled.  The bride and groom’s choice of music worked really well for the ceremony, including Pachelbel Canon in D and the Flower Duet from Delibe’s “Lakme” (made famous by the British Airways advert). Often people want something upbeat for the exit but they asked for a more serene piece which worked beautifully – Haydn Serenade Op 3 No 5.

As the guests moved outside for drinks and canapes on the lawn we relocated to underneath the portico to entertain them with a mix of classical and lighter music, overlooking a couple of amazing vintage cars belonging to the relatives of the bride. After the guests returned to the Baronial Hall to continue the day we packed away and prepared for the 10 minute drive home – an unusual but welcome finish to the booking!
